【Major Reform of 485 Visa】 Effective from July 1st, 2024!
- Graduate Work stream: The Graduate Work stream will be renamed to the Post-Vocational Education Work stream. The maximum eligible age for Post-Vocational Education Work stream applicants will reduce to 35 years of age or under.
- Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders will continue to be eligible provided they are under 50 years of age.
- Applicants must hold an associate degree, diploma or trade qualification, closely related to their nominated occupation.
- Applicants with a degree level qualification or higher will no longer be eligible for this stream.
- Post-Study Work stream:
- The Post-Study Work stream will be renamed to the Post-Higher Education Work stream.
- New age limits will be the same with the above Post-Vocational Education Work stream.
- The ‘select degree’ 2 year extension will cease.
- Stay periods will change to the following:
- Bachelor degree (including honours) – up to 2 years
- Masters (coursework and extended) – up to 2 years
- Masters (research) and doctoral degree (PhD) – up to 3 years.
- Second Post-Study Work stream:
- The Second Post-Study Work stream will be renamed the Second Post-Higher Education Work stream. There are no other changes to this stream.
- Replacement stream:
- The Replacement stream will cease.
【Major Reform of Australian Student Visa】 Effective from March 23, 2024!
Highlights:
1. Student visa applications submitted from March 23, 2024, will be subject to new Genuine Student (GS) requirements, and no longer require a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement.2. Applications lodged before March 23, 2024, that have not received results, will be assessed according to existing GTE requirements.3. The GTE requirement will be retained for Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) applicants.
Additional Requirements:
Starting from March 23, 2024, Australian student visa applicants will need to answer the following questions in the visa application form:• Detailed information about the applicant's current situation, including family, employment, educational background, etc.• Explanation of why they chose the course and why they chose Australia as their study destination.• How the course will benefit the applicant.• If previously studied in Australia, detailed information about those studies needs to be provided.• For applicants currently in Australia but not holding a student visa (e.g., WHV/600), an explanation of the reasons for applying for a student visa is required.
Revised Student Visa Declaration:• Applicants are required to confirm their understanding of what it means to be a genuine student.• Willingness to comply with the conditions of the student visa and to notify the Department of Home Affairs of any changes when necessary.• Understanding that most graduates will still need to leave Australia.
